PAWTUCKET - Joao Farias, 90 of Pawtucket died Wednesday at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center surrounded by his loving family. He is the husband of Maria do Carmo Farias and they have been married for 67 years. Born in Santa Barbara, Sao Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Jose and Maria (dos Anjos) Farias. Joao immigrated with his family to the United States in 1967 and settled in Pawtucket.
Prior to his retirement in 1993, Joao worked at International Packaging in Pawtucket. He was a Eucharistic Minister and parishioner at St. Anthony's Church for 47 years and he is a founder of the Holy Spirit Society.
Beside his wife Joao is survived by his children, Maria Andrade of Seekonk, Cecilia Botelho of Estero, FL, Manuel Farias of Sao Miguel, Azores and Duarte Farias of Providence; a sister, Maria dos Anjos Sampaio of Laval, Canada and a brother, Elidio Farias of Laval, Canada; 9 grandchildren including the late Frederick Botelho and 10 great grandchildren.
Joao was the brother of the late Maria, Mequelina, Nazare, Eduarda, Constantina, and Jose.
His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. from the LACHAPELLE FUNERAL HOME, 643 Main Street, Pawtucket with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony Church, Lawn Avenue, Pawtucket at 10:00 a.m. His life will be celebrated with calling hours on Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment in Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers gifts in Joao's memory can be made to St. Anthony's Church, 32 Lawn Avenue, Pawtucket, RI 02860.
