PAWTUCKET — In an apparent case of pet hoarding that has spiraled out of control, city officials on Friday condemned a house at 403 Liverpool St. and removed 17 animals that resided there.
City Building official John Hanley said he was called to the single-family house by Pawtucket Police. He said that once he stepped inside, he immediately moved to condemn the property as unfit for human occupancy based on the unsanitary conditions that he observed. He declined to provide specifics, but said that the unhealthy conditions were primarily due to the large number of animals living inside the residence and the waste that had accumulated.
