PAWTUCKET — Pawtucket Police are seeking the male driver of a black Jeep that struck a toddler near the intersection of Main and Harrison streets on Tuesday evening and then drove off.
Major Arthur Martins said police responded to 609 Main St. at around 6:20 p.m. for a report of a hit-and-run accident involving a 2-year-old male. When officers arrived, they found that the child had been struck by a Jeep that was backing out of a parking space. Because the vehicle was not yet on the roadway, it wasn’t traveling fast. The child suffered scrapes and bruises but no serious injuries, Martins said.
Police were told that a witness to the incident had informed the Jeep’s driver that he had just struck a person. However, after the child was moved to a safe location by the witness and the child’s mother, the Jeep reportedly fled the area. The Jeep had a Rhode Island license plate of 527-625 attached, according to the witness. Anyone with information regarding this accident is asked to call Pawtucket Police at 401-727-9100.
