Mary A. McCaughey
PROVIDENCE - Mary A. (Gaudet) McCaughey died on November 18 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence. A life long resident of Pawtucket, she was predeceased by her husband Bernard J., her daughter Adele and her siblings, Dr. Albert Gaudet, Walter Gaudet, Eleanor Lucey, Frances Galvin, Dr. Eugene Gaudet, and Grace Robinson.
She was also the mother of Ann Gillespie and her husband Kenneth Brown of Marlborough, MA, Rosemary Gnatek and her husband James of Cumberland, Bernard J. Jr. and his wife E. Norris of Lincoln, William J. and his wife Kathryn of Lincoln, Thomas V. of Warwick and his wife Kathleen, and Jane F. Saunders and her husband Terry L. of Marlborough, MA. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy of Fort Collins, CO, 12 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, her loving caregiver Isabel Vincente, many devoted nieces and nephews and friends.
Mrs. McCaughey, the daughter of the late Sophie A. (Maillot) and Jereome Gaudet was a member of the first graduating class of St. Edward's School, which is now known as Woodlawn Catholic Regional School and Pawtucket East High School.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Pawtucket and over the years actively participated and organized parish and school activities. She was a founding mother of St. Mary's Mother's Club and served as its first president.
She was also a long time volunteer for the Pawtucket Red Cross where she frequently served as both driver and compassionate friend for children and families needing transportation for medical treatments in Boston. She also was a dedicated visitor volunteer to a number of veterans in medical facilities.
In lieu of flowers, family and friend are invited to contribute to Woodlawn Catholic Regional School, 61 Hope St., Pawtucket, RI.
The funeral for Mrs. McCaughey will be Friday at 9:00 am from the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Pine Street Pawtucket at 10:00 am. Her calling hours will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m in the funeral home.
