PROVIDENCE – It’s halftime at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center where Providence leads Seton Hall, 43-36. The Pirates and their 3-13 Big East record are hanging around thanks to carving up the Friars to the tune of 55.6-percent shooting from the floor.
The Hall’s scoring output has prevented Providence from seizing control on several occasions. PC’s biggest lead was 10 points (27-17) with 8:41 remaining left in the opening half. The Pirates closed to within 32-31 after back-to-back baskets by Brian Oliver before the Friars responded with an 11-5 to close out the half.
PC’s Kadeem Batts leads all scorers with 14 points, though defensively he’s been burned down low by Seton Hall’s Brian Oliver several times. A Providence win would push Ed Cooley’s club into a tie for seventh place in the Big East standings. At 9-8 the Friars would sport the same record as Villanova, a team PC took two games from this season.
