PAWTUCKET - Willis J. Leonard, 67, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, January 29, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Mary R. (Beausoleil) Leonard for twenty-seven years. A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Edward A. and Loretta (McNally) Leonard.
Will was a sweeper operator for the City of Pawtucket, Public Works Department for the past twenty-seven years, and had been awarded employee of the year by former Mayor Robert Metivier. He was active in sports as a child, and loved NASCAR and enjoyed fishing. Will was a member of the Dusza-Almeida VFW Post 2339, Pawtucket.
He was a devoted husband and father, besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Willis, Richard and Christopher Leonard; six step-daughters, Nicole Martin, Robin Basara, Donna Tucker, Sheila Tucker, Kim Leo and Lisa Racine; a sister, Lois Thurston; twenty-four grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Ruth Hamilton, Mary Popkins, Edward Leonard and Leona Kelly.
His funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Cecilia Church, 755 Central Ave., Pawtucket. Interment will follow at Mt. St. Mary Cemetery.
