WEST WARWICK -- Senior captain Ryan Barry scored twice and set up two other goals on Friday night to lead East Providence to a 4-3 victory over West Warwick in the Division III opener for both teams at the West Warwick Civic Center.
Matt Hall and Paul Lukas added the Townies’ other goals, and freshman Ryan Costa had a pair of assists, and goalie Shawn Medeiros turned away 20 shots.
The Townies are back home tonight for their home opener at Lynch Arena, as they host Scituate in a 9:30 p.m. matchup.
Tolman falls to Johnston/N.P. co-op team
SMITHFIELD -- The Johnston/North Providence co-op squad kicked off its defense of its Division III championship on Friday night by skating to a 4-1 victory over Tolman at the Smithfield Ice Rink.
Four different players scored for the co-op team, which outshot the Tigers by a 23-22 margin. Jared Pedro scored the Tigers’ goal off assists from Zachary Belasco and Ed Reall.
The early schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Tigers, who will take on Cranston East tonight at 7:40 p.m. at Cranston Stadium. The Thunderbolts rolled to a 16-0 conquest of Woonsocket in their opener on Friday night.
