PAWTUCKET -- Tolman High scored its biggest win of the season on Monday, handling Division II-South leader Middletown its first loss.
The Tigers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull out the win. The game was tied after seven innings to both teams began their at-bats in the eighth with a runner on second base. Middletown plated its runner to take an 11-10 lead, setting the stage for Tolman’s final comeback of the day.
Ashley Hessler put down a bunt single for Tolman to get things started. Jordan Klemanchuck then singled in both runners to win the game.
Klemanchuck went 4-for-4 with three singles and a triple. She knocked in three runs for the Tigers, who took an early 10-5 lead after two innings before going scoreless for five straight innings.
Ashley Clark went 4-for-5 with one RBI while Olivia Larson, who pitched the first four innings, got two hits and knocked in two runs.
Alex LaCoste came on in relief to slow Middletown’s hitters down over the final three innings.
“It’s a big win for us,” said Tolman coach Craig Giarusso. “This gives us a lot of confidence going into our final four games of the regular season.”
Tolman is now 11-1 to lead Division II-East. Middletown has the same record and still leads Division II-South.
Tolman will visit a 6-4 Classical squad this afternoon, hoping to avoid a letdown.
