While battling a fire that killed a man and injured another at 681 Broadway in Pawtucket Tuesday night, a Pawtucket firefighter on Ladder 2 uses a Pike’s Pole as smoke and flames pour from the third floor of the six-family residence. The fire appears to have started in the rear of the third floor. One man was severely injured in the fire. He was taken to Memorial Hospital, according to Battalion Chief Timothy Mercer. The man later died. The second victim was reportedly recovering at Memorial Hospital. A third resident escaped from a first-floor apartment but was also taken to the hospital after reporting seizure symptoms. Two firefighters suffered smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene.
