PAWTUCKET - Rene Bobola, 86 of Pawtucket died on Dec. 27, 2010 from complications of a stroke in Miriam Hospital, Providence. He had been a resident of Pawtucket most of his life. Prior to retirement in 1949, he was employed as an electrician for approximately 20 years.
He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was Commander of the Eugene T. Lefebrve Post #1271, Central Falls, Post #5, American Legion. He was a member of American Legion 40+8, and a member and trustee of DAV Lawrence Redmond Chapter 3 of Pawtucket. He devoted all his free time to veterans organizations. He was a Navy Veteran of 31 plus years of the Emergency Room at the VA Medical Center in Providence where he accumulated over 20,000 hours of service. He served one week per year for 26 years for Boys State camp. He was a member of the United Veterans Council of RI for many many years and currently was President of the Central Falls Veterans Council. He was a life member of the James Ryan Post #33.
Survivors are his 31-year companion, Irene Wilkinson of Pawtucket, 10 step grandchildren and 1 step great granddaughter.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 at the DARLINGTON MORTUARY OF L. HEROUX & SON, 1042 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket. Visitation hours will be on Tuesday, Jan. 4th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial with Military Honors will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket (when Michael Jackson will serve as trumpeter)
