Althea E. Thompson
Cumberland - Althea E. (Fowler) Thompson, 94, of Old Diamond Hill Road died Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Emerald Bay Manor, Cumberland. She was the wife of the late Earl N. Thompson.
Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Harris E. and Emma (Brown) Fowler, she had lived in Cumberland for the past 45 years.
Mrs. Thompson was a customer service representative for Citizens Bank for 20 years before retiring in 1973. While at the Darlington branch of Citizens, she ran the Schools Savings program. When she was transferred to Citizens' main office, she headed the entire School Savings program for the bank, and later formalized the School Savings program onto computer. Prior to working for Citizens Bank, she worked for Burroughs Business Machine Company, which later became Remington-Rand.
She was a graduate of Pawtucket High School and a member of the National Honor Society. She was one of the first two women ever to be admitted to MIT. She attended Radcliffe College (Harvard University).
Mrs. Thompson was a member of Queen Esther Chapter #2, Order of the Eastern Star, Pawtucket. She was a Past Worthy Advisor of Rainbow Assembly and a member and a Past Praetor of the Rainbow Alumnae. She was a Golden Eagle Girl Scout.
She is survived by one son, Robert B. Thompson of Cumberland; two grandsons; two great granddaughters and one great grandson.
Her service will be held THURSDAY, DECEMBER 9 at 11 A.M. at the BELLOWS-FALSO FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial will be private.
