Vincent P. O'Neill

PAWTUCKET- Vincent P. O'Neill, 83, of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully Friday, March 2, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Nunez) O'Neill. They were happily married for fifty seven years.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Crane) O'Neill.
Mr. O'Neill was a lifelong resident of Pawtucket. He graduated from Saint Raphael Academy in 1946. He then graduated from New England Institute of Anatomy and Embalming in 1951.
In 1964 Vincent opened the Vincent P. O'Neill Funeral Home on Park Street in Pawtucket, in 1991, he relocated, and acquired the A.T. Costigan & Sons Funeral Home and operated the Costigan-O'Neill Funeral Home, Pawtucket, before retiring in 2003.
He was the director of the former Father Barry Center, Pawtucket, and was previously employed by the diocese of Providence in the office of Planning and Development. He was a former grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, Delaney Council #57.He was past president and member of the RI Funeral Directors Association and a member of the National Funeral Directors Association.
He was very active at Saint Raphael Academy, serving as the first chairman of the school board and was a two time recipient of the Saint Jean the Bapiste de Lasalle award.
Vin and Joan have spent their summers for the last forty years in Touisset Point, Warren, RI.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his eight children, Vincent O'Neill Jr., Timothy O'Neill and his wife Jennifer, Peter O'Neill and his wife Margaret, Christopher O'Neill and his wife Judith, Mary Murray and her husband Stephen, Elizabeth Bradley and her husband Michael, John O'Neill and his wife Roberta, and Anne Sebastian and her husband, Kurt. He also leaves his brothers, Dr. John, Thomas, William, Robert, Joseph, Paul, and Raymond, his sister, Jane Couture, and nineteen grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Josephine O'Brien, Fidelis Donovan, and Nancy O'Neill.
Relatives and friends are invited to a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 10AM in Saint Leo The Great Church of Blessed Pope John Paul II Parish, 697 Central Avenue, Pawtucket. A graveside burial will be in Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8PM in the COSTIGAN-O'NEILL Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket.
