DALL all-stars lose opener E-mail
Tuesday, 30 June 2009
BRISTOL -- Bristol rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on Monday night and defeated Darlington American 4-3 in the first round of the R.I. District 2 Major Division playoffs.
DALL jumped out to an early 3-0 lead when Vicente Noriega reached on an error and Nathan Duffy walked. Austin Gordon’s sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third base. An error and two wild pitches gave the Pawtucket squad its 3-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the sixth, Bristol’s Aaron Almeida led off with a walk. Anthony DeMello singled to right field and both runners moved up a base on an error. Bristol’s Brandon Millard then hit a ground ball to the infield on which the Darlington squad made a misplay that allowed the tying and winning runs to score.
Darlington will return to action on Wednesday night when it meets either Barrington or Newport in a loser’s bracket elimination game.
