By DONNA KENNY KIRWAN PAWTUCKET — The Pawtucket City Council has rescheduled its special session on the budget to Tuesday, June 2 at 5 p.m. at Pawtucket City Hall. Prior to the session, the Finance Committee will meet at 4:30 p.m.
City Council President Henry Kinch Jr. apologized for the inconvenience of the last-minute switch, but said that the council has been working diligently on the budget and needs more time to get additional information on some figures. “We're looking to get all that we can out of this budget to cut down on the amount of the increase,” said Kinch. If the proposed budget is amended on Tuesday, another public hearing will be held before the council votes to adopt it for second and final passage. Mayor James Doyle has submitted a proposed operating budget of approximately $177.6 million for the new fiscal year that begins on July 1. If passed unchanged, the budget would require a property tax increase of almost 9.2 percent.
