Tolman returns to state softball finals E-mail
Friday, 29 May 2009
PAWTUCKET – It was business as usual for the defending state champions.
Macayla Kirylo tossed her fifth no-hitter of the season and the offense belted out 17 hits as Tolman High breezed past Central Falls, 14-0, in the Division III semifinals on Thursday. The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.
With the win, the Tigers (18-1 overall) advance to the best-of-3 state finals against Scituate, beginning this Sunday at noon at Rhode Island College. The Spartans defeated Davies 9-7 in their semifinal tilt.
In registering her gem, Kirylo struck out 11 in the shortened contest. She also helped to her cause with two hits. Veronica LeJeune fueled the offense, going 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Shannon Deighan was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI.
