Shea '9' takes over first place |

PAWTUCKET ---- Shea High is now all alone in first place in the Division II-East standings. The Raiders posted their third victory of the week on Friday afternoon with a 10-4 victory over Mount Pleasant High at Max Read Field that boosted their record to 5-4. Tolman High and Mount Hope High, which also came into the day with .500 record, both lost at home on Friday. The Tigers suffered an extra-inning loss to the Prout School and the Huskies dropped an 11-2 verdict to Exeter/West Greenwich High. In the win over M.P., Eric Geisman and Arianny Segura teamed up to four-hit the Kilties. Geisman worked the first five innings and struck out four to pick up the win. Offensively, Geisman went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and catcher Kevin Allenson added a pair of doubles and four runs batted in. *** Mount Pleasant 000 012 1—4-4-2 Shea 203 320 x—10-11-2 Mike Yapor, John Carlos Valazquez (5) and Joan Severino; Eric Geisman, Arianny Segura (6) and Kevin Allenson.
Prout pounds Tolman PAWTUCKET --- The Prout School erupted for five runs in the top of the eighth inning en route to a 9-4 crossover victory over Tolman High at Slater Park that gave the Tigers their fourth Division II loss in five games. Eric Johnston belted a solo home run in the second inning for the Tigers, and Justin Tilley added a RBI double in the sixth that helped tie the score at 4-4 and force extra frames. The Tigers are 5-6. They will visit crosstown rival Shea on Tuesday afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. contest at Max Read Field. NORTH SCITUATE --- Three unearned runs in the top of the fourth inning proved to be the difference in the game in Woonsocket High’s 5-4 win over Ponaganset High in non-league action on Friday afternoon. Tyler Brien, Melvin Torres, and Dan Martinez collected doubles to lead the Villa Novans, who are 4-6. The Chieftains, who fell to 8-3, were led by Matt Sprague, who went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple. CENTRAL FALLS --- Five miscues led to 10 unearned runs and a long day for Central Falls High on Friday afternoon in the Warriors’ 12-5 setback to Classical High at Macomber Stadium. WOONSOCKET --- Red-hot Mount St. Charles Academy extended its win streak to six games on Friday afternoon by storming off with a 15-0 victory over Davies Tech that was halted after 4½ innings by the mercy rule. Garrett Hayward, Nick Bowen, and Pat Lydon teamed up on the hill to one-hit the Patriots and help raise the Mounties’ record to 8-3. Offensively, Vaughn Hayward nearly hit for the cycle, as he collected a base hit, triple, and home run and drove in three runs. Brendan Combes also had a single, triple, and three RBIs, and Kameron Luther also singled and tripled. The Patriots (3-8) received their hit from Steve Hereth, a two-out double in the first inning. *** Davies 000 00—0-1-2 Mount St. Charles 308 4x—15-15-0 David Coia, Ben Geisman (4), Steve Hereth (4) and Pat Vasconcelos; Garrett Hayward, Nick Bowen (4), Pat Lydon (5) and Josh Pangborn, Kameron Luther (5). SCITUATE -- Brian Van Pelt and Nick Naradowy combined on a one-hitter for North Smithfield High on Friday afternoon, but Scituate High rallied for four unearned runs in the second inning and held on for a close 4-3 Division II-North victory at Manning Field. Kyle Pheland’s two-out, bases-clearing triple in the second came after a pair of hit batsmen, a throwing miscue on a bunt, and a walk and helped Scituate improve to 7-4.
