Saints upset by Coventry '9' E-mail

COVENTRY – Coventry High walked off with a stunning 3-2 victory over St. Raphael Academy on Tuesday afternoon at the Walter Clarke Complex.
Zach Briden singled in the winning run for the Knotty Oakers, who registered their first win of the spring (1-8 Division I-West).
SRA, which entered play tied with La Salle Academy atop the Division I-North standings, was quiet through the first six innings before tying things up in its first at-bat. Down 2-0, Drew Given delivering a two-out, two-run single that scored senior Matt Simon and sophomore newcomer Lucas Houston.
The Saints, now 6-3, didn’t have a baserunner until the top of the fifth as Coventry starter David Dwyer set down 12 straight to begin the game. St. Raphael starter Joe Brooks finished with six strikeouts and five walks.

WARWICK – Joe Landi had three hits and a pair of RBI and pitcher John Kashmanian had a complete-game, eight-strikeout effort on the mound as Smithfield High  defeated Toll Gate High, 10-4, in a Division I-North tilt on Tuesday.
With the Sentinels holding a 4-3 lead, Eric Laroche sparked a four-run fourth inning by driving in two with a triple.
Smithfield improved to 5-4 in the league.

WARWICK – Eric Tracey pitched to just one player over the minimum, hurling a one-hitter as Cumberland High blanked Toll Gate High, 5-0, in a Division I clash on Tuesday. Tracey finished with eight strikeouts in his gem.
Luther Sergiacomi and Matt Milano each had two-run doubles and Brad Bowe had an RBI triple for Cumberland, which mustered just four hits in the game.
The Clippers return to the diamond on Thursday at Pilgrim.
