Saints’ Brooks blanks North Providence E-mail

PAWTUCKET -- Joe Brooks threw a complete-game shutout on Monday as St. Raphael Academy scored a 3-0 victory over North Providence.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning. Ray Johnston singled in the game’s first run and then Matt Simon singled home two more runs to complete the scoring.
Brooks struck out six batters and walked two for the Saints, who are now 5-1 in Class A-North. They host Woonsocket on Wednesday.

Woonsocket shuts out Lincoln

LINCOLN – Behind seven innings of shutout ball by Matt Ledoux and a three-run home run off the bat of Cody Mazzarella, Woonsocket blanked Lincoln, 8-0, Monday afternoon at Chet Nichols Field.
Woonsocket claws back to .500 (3-3) in Division I-North while Lincoln falls to 1-5.
Ledoux scattered six hits, walking four while striking out four. Mazzarella’s big blast came in the seventh, the Villa Novans already ahead 5-0.
Lions starter David Hoey was charged with five charged runs, though thanks to four errors behind him, none of them were earned. Hoey, now 0-4 on the year, pitched into the sixth inning, allowing six hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
Lincoln, which lined out into a pair of double plays, received a 2-for-4 performance from Ryan O’Dell, who also swiped two bases.

La Salle stomps Smithfield
PROVIDENCE – Smithfield scored two runs in its first at-bat Monday against La Salle Academy, but the Rams scored the next 10 runs in a 10-2 final. The Sentinels, which committed four errors, drop to 3-3 in Division I-North.

Hendricken outlasts Cumberland, 12-11
CUMBERLAND – Cumberland nearly fought all the way Monday, scoring nine times in the last of seventh. The rally came up just short in a 12-11 loss to defending champ Bishop Hendricken at Tucker Field.
The Clippers (1-5 Division I-North) sent 14 to the plate in the seventh, the highlights a two-run single from senior Ryan Innarelli. Cumberland left the tying run at first base. The Hawks committed three errors in the frame.
Cumberland was guilty of 10 errors, paving the way for nine unearned runs. Innarelli went 2-for-3 with two runs while senior Ryan Collette finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI.
Hendricken starter and Lincoln native Chris Constantino struck out 14 through six innings before turning things over to the bullpen.

Portsmouth routs East Providence
EAST PROVIDENCE – Portsmouth was simply too much for East Providence in a 12-0 romp for the Patriots Monday at Pierce Stadium. Portsmouth broke open a 4-0 game by exploding for eight runs in the top of the seventh against an E.P. outfit that managed just one hit.
The Townies fall to 1-4 in Division I-East.
