ROCHESTER, N.Y. --- Jeff Bailey clocked a pair of home runs and drove in three runs for the Pawtucket Red Sox on Tuesday night, but Bailey’s heroics alone couldn’t prevent the PawSox from dropping a close 6-5 verdict to the Rochester Red Wings at Frontier Field. Former PawSox infielder Alejandro Machado’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning turned out to be the difference in the ballgame and sent the PawSox to their third straight loss. The PawSox had kicked off the year with three wins in a row at the expense of the Buffalo Bisons. The Red Wings scored four runs in their opening swings off PawSox starter Enrique Gonzalez, but after Bailey unloaded a solo homer in the third and a two-run shot in the fifth, the PawSox took the lead in the seventh on a wild pitch that scored Angel Chavez and a sacrifice fly by Jeff Natale. But the hosts tied the score in the home half of the seventh and went ahead to stay on Machado’s sacrifice fly. The PawSox only had five hits as a team, three coming off Bailey’s bat and the other two from Chavez. The Red Wings were led by Matt Macri, who collected a pair of hits, scored twice, and added a run batted in and a stolen base. The series resumes tonight at 6:35 p.m.
