Lincoln's Musket wins NE swim title |

LEWISTON, Maine – For area athletes, it turned out to be a very successful afternoon in Sunday’s New England High School Swim/Dive Championships.
Held at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, two local swimmers were crowned individual champions and a handful more came up with quality placements.
Coming off a victory in the 50-yard freestyle at the state championships two weeks earlier, Lincoln High senior Alyssa Musket repeated that performance in the New England’s, earning the individual title with a time of 25.40 seconds. She out-distanced all-stater Ashley Fitzsimmons of the Prout School, who was the runner-up in 26.38. Musket also was part of the Lions’ 4x200 freestyle relay squad of Shannon Dattolli, Lara Kuscu and Elena Mulvey that finished 13th overall with a time of 1:54.34.
Mount St. Charles’ senior John Vatkevich also came home a victor in the meet, capturing the 200 freestyle with a 1:45.36 clocking. Multiple all-stater Graham Eve of La Salle was a distant second in 1:49.96. Vatkevich also finished second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.43.
East Providence had a pair of runner-up placements from Regan Jeffrey in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.76) and its 4x400 freestyle relay (3:28.78). The Townies also had a third-place finish from their 200 medley relay (1:42.42).
Lincoln’s Sam Carlson was third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.71 and was fourth in the 100 freestyle with a 50.63 clocking.
