Tolman rallies past Toll Gate E-mail
Tuesday, 10 February 2009
WARWICK – A spirited comeback in the second half lifted Tolman High to a 61-52 triumph on the road over Toll Gate High Monday night. The victory puts the Tigers just one win away from qualifying for the Division II playoffs.
Trailing by 11 points (42-31) with 12 minutes remaining after the Titans connected a four straight 3-pointers, Tolman whittled at the deficit and eventually took the lead on a bucket from Allens Etienne with about three minutes remaining. Chris DosSantos essentially sealed the deal for the Tigers, draining a 3-pointer with about a minute and a half to go to give his teammates a five-point cushion.
Nick Fontaine led the charge for Tolman with a game-high 25 points. Etienne scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds and Rodney Bustillo scored seven points and had eight assists.
With the win, Tolman improved to 7-5 in the league. The Tigers finish out the week with a pair of road games against Warwick (Wednesday) and Shea (Friday).

Saturday night I attended the semi-final girls basketball
game vs Townies Girls team as an aunt of one of the EP players. It was an exciting
all-around game for both teams, and I give credit to my niece and the Townie girls
too for a great season.  <br />I just have to say though, that I was
particularly impressed with the talent, poise and unflappable playing style of this
Tolman girls team! It can only speak well of a great coaching staff, and their love
and encouragement of these talented girls. After the game, the low-key humilty that
the Tolman girls displayed, showed real sportsmanship and class. I have a feeling
that this season is the "Year of the Tiger" and hope that they go straight on to
victory in the championship. No matter what the outcome though, they've gained a new
loyal fan in me, and I look forward to following the next seasons with real
interest. This is the way that high school sports should be played! You go Tolman
girls! - Regina Orio
