Cabbie uninjured in Anthony Avenue incident By DONNA KENNY KIRWAN PAWTUCKET — A cab driver heading to pick up a customer on Anthony Avenue Wednesday evening was threatened by a knife-wielding suspect who then drove off in his cab, police said.
According to Detectives Lt. Daniel Mullen, the cab driver responded to an address on Anthony Avenue near the intersection with Main Street at around 5 p.m. for a requested ride to Providence. When the cab pulled up, a young black male climbed into the front seat and immediately pulled out a large knife. The suspect reportedly pointed the knife at the driver and told him to hand over his money or he would be stabbed. Mullen said the cab driver bolted from the vehicle and fled. The cabbie saw the suspect drive off in the vehicle, which was described as a Checker Cab van. Police recovered both the cab and the knife, which had a 12-inch blade, a short time later on Webb Street. The cab driver, who police declined to identify, was uninjured. The suspect was described as being between 16 and 22 years of age, approximately 5 feet 3 inches tall with a slim build. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Pawtucket Police at 727-9100.
