PROVIDENCE – St. Raphael Academy hung tough with Mount Pleasant High Tuesday night, but the Kilties pulled away down the stretch to score a 69-55 win. The loss drops SRA to 4-5 in Division I-North while Mount Pleasant, which welcomes Woonsocket on Friday night, improves to 8-1 in D-1 East. Three free throws from Saints senior Ray Johnston tied the game at 50-apiece with five minutes remaining, but the Kilties followed up with a momentum-breaking 8-0 run that put the home team ahead to stay. St. Raphael managed just five points after Johnston’s freebies. Speaking Johnston, he led all scorers with 29 points, shooting 10-of-15 from the floor and pulling down 11 rebounds. Senior Avery King chipped in with 12 points. Mount Pleasant placed three players in double figures, led by 13 points from Jeff Darius. SRA, which has now dropped four of five, looks to snap out of its funk when East Providence comes to Alumni Hall on Friday. *** ST.
