CUMBERLAND — The Town Council will convene two days before its regularly scheduled meeting in an effort to fill several soon-to-be vacant town government posts.

The special meeting will be held at Town Hall Monday at 6:30 p.m. Appointments or re-appointments will be made to various boards or commissions, the former to fill slots vacated by term expiration or resignation.
The first such position is held by Donald E. Palagi of the Board of Assessment Review. Candidates to replace Palagi are David Brown of 707 High St., Christopher J. O’Leary of 148 Shirley Drive and James S. Savage of 48 Newell Drive. The appointee will serve until Jan. 31, 2015.
Five members of the Conservation Commission — Julie Guerin, George Gettinger, Frank Geary Jr., John Monaghan and Briscoe Lang — are up for re-appointment, while the terms of fellow members Lucille P. Martin and Robert Pompei will expire. Applying for three-year seats on the commission are Robert Spadano of 35 Millers Brook Drive, Greg Myers of 49 Abbott Run Valley Road and Michael M. Scalzi III of 10 Tallyho Road.
Three applicants are vying for standard two-year terms on the Historic District Commission: Joyce A. Hindle Koutsogiane of 3 Old Hickory Drive, Janet Hook of 9 Barn Drive and Robert Spadano of 35 Millers Brook Drive. Seeking re-appointment are David Balfour, Lester Hilton, Ruth S. Bascombe, Kathleen McKenzie, Charles Seavor, Bruce Shepard and Michael Magee.
The council will also consider the reappointment of Joseph Babiec and Marianne Mullholland as library trustees, with terms to expire on Dec. 31, 2011. Applicants to the library board include the aforementioned Robert Spadano, Gerry Paulhus of 4 Wyoming Drive, Constance L. Witham of 26 Hillside Road and Kerri Lanni Deacon of 6 High Ridge Drive.
Dana G. Mauch Jr. of 23 Wollen Drive seeks appointment to the Parks and Recreation Commission slot being vacated by Stanley Lachut Jr. With terms that will expire at the end of 2010, the following are in line for reappointment to the commission: Thomas M. Kenwood, Lisa M. Anderson, Dino A. Giorgio, Michael Vergano and Charles Sears.
Anthony Pandozzi is seeking a three-year reappointment to the Planning Board. Also seeking appointment to the board are Mr. Spadano and Nicholas Goodier of 10 Columbia Drive.
Three locals would like to fill the Zoning Board seat that Edward G. LeBlanc is leaving: Christopher J. O’Leary of 148 Shirley Drive, Karst R. Hoogeboom of 6 Woodcrest Drive and Tim Caggiano of 31 Kennedy Court.
Zoners seeking reappointment are John P. McCoy, Carl Zoubra and alternate members Tara Capuano and Robert A. Chaput. The new members' terms would expire on the last day of 2013.
