Fernandes saves Tolman again E-mail

PROVIDENCE – Tolman High’s Amy Fernandes hit her second game-winning shot in a week on Monday, draining a three-pointer with 5.2 seconds remaining as the Tigers stunned Moses Brown, 49-48.
“Amy’s a true leader,” Tolman coach Tammy Drape said after the game. “She wants to take the big shot for us. The way the play developed, it was a breakaway and Leanne Fanning passed the ball to Amy, who took a jab step, stepped behind the line and hit the three.”
Fanning finished with 14 points for the Tigers, who are 3-1 overall and 1-0 in Division II-Central. Fernandes added 10 points and April Maine chipped in with nine for the Tigers.

Ponaganset routs Cranston East
GLOCESTER – Stephanie Constant led the scoring parade for Ponaganset with 16 points as the Chieftains raced to a 68-38 victory over Cranston East on Monday evening.
“We were able to rebound and run the floor,” Ponaganset coach Gary Martinelli said. “We played well at both ends of the floor.”
Leah Lemoine added 12 points while Kaitlin Lennon and Katie Fountain chipped in with 10 points apiece in a balanced offensive attack.
Ponaganset is now 2-0 in Division I and 2-1 overall heading into Friday night’s 7 p.m. game against Cumberland at the Smithfield tournament.

Woonsocket romps
RICHMOND --- Lauren Masse’s game-high 21 points fueled the attack for Woonsocket High on Monday night in the Villa Novans’ 69-43 victory over Chariho High in Division II crossover action at the Chargers’ gym.
The Novans, who are 3-0, also received fine outings from Ashley Dubois and Brooke Coderre. Dubois scored 18 points and ripped down seven rebounds, and Coderre added 13 points, eight assists, and four steals.
Kailey Fugere also tossed in eight points for the Novans, who comfortably led by 21 (38-17) at the break.
The Villa Novans will travel to New York this weekend to play in the Big Apple Classic at Bishop Ford Central Catholic High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. Woonsocket has games scheduled for Sunday and Monday.

Uxbridge routs Douglas
DOUGLAS ---- Senior standouts Laura Bishop and Kate Chenevert each scored 13 points for Uxbridge High on Monday night in the Spartans’ 58-23 non-league victory on the road over Douglas High.
The Spartans (2-0) led at all the breaks as they took a 28-4 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Lindsay McQuade and Libbi Richardson each added eight points for Uxbridge and Chenevert added four steals.
The Spartans will travel to Quaboag on Tuesday and Tantasqua Regioinal on Saturday.

Saints clip Classical
PAWTUCKET --- Christina Hopper enjoyed a fine all-around night with a game-high 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals, and three blocked shots for St. Raphael Academy on Monday in the Saints’ 56-39 victory over Division I-North foe Classical High at the Saints’ Wellness Center.
Sharae Hall also scored 12 points for the Saints, who led by nine (24-15) at intermission and never looked back en route to their fourth win in five games.
Classical’s Ashley Williams scored all 15 of her points from beyond the three-point arc.

Ashley O’Dell led the Lions with 20 points, hitting 10 of 14 free throws.
Lincoln is now 0-2 in Division I.
