Local news has been the heart and soul of The Times since George O. Willard founded what was then known as The Evening Times in 1885. The first edition of The Evening Times hit the streets on the afternoon of April 30, 1885. The first editorial stated that "The Evening Times will not be an advocate of any party or clique, but endeavor to give all sides a fair hearing and publish the political as it does the local news without prejudice."

Today we continue that tradition as we proudly serve the southern Blackstone Valley of Rhode Island, including the cities of Pawtucket, Central Falls and East Providence and the towns of Lincoln and Cumberland. We also serve the nearby Massachusetts communities of Attleboro and Seekonk. The Times is a publication of the Rhode Island Media Group.
