By DONNA KENNY KIRWAN PAWTUCKET — A uniformed Boy Scout who was attacked in an attempted robbery of his cell phone managed to hold onto the phone and used it to help police apprehend the suspect on Monday afternoon.
According to Pawtucket Police Det. Donti Rosciti, the victim, a juvenile male, reported that he was walking on Highland Street at around 3:45 p.m. when a black male, approximately 20 to 30 years old, punched him in the head and assaulted him, and then tried to grab his cell phone. The suspect was able to rip the youth’s phone headset off of the victim’s head, but the youth, despite having been beaten up, refused to let go of the cell phone, Rosciti said. The suspect finally gave up and fled with just the headset. The victim immediately used the cell phone to call police and gave them the direction in which the suspect had fled. A short time later, patrol officers located the suspect on Clyde Street and he was taken into custody. The suspect, Derrell E. Brown, 20, of Marden St., Cranston, was charged with robbery--second degree and resisting arrest, police said.
