Seekonk gridders defense D-R E-mail
Friday, 28 November 2008
DIGHTON --- Junior halfback Joe Teixeira had a strong contest offensively and Seekonk High’s defense forced four turnovers in the fourth quarter en route to a 13-3 victory over South Coast Conference rival Dighton-Regional Regional on Thursday at the Falcons’ Roy Field.
The victory was the Warriors’ third over the Falcons in the last four seasons and allows them to conclude their regular season with a 6-4 record -- good for their second straight season with a winning record.
Teixeira, who scored both of the Warriors’ touchdowns, helped the visitors erase a 3-0 lead by scoring on a four-yard sweep off the right tackle as time ran out in the second quarter. Seekonk quarterback Matt Quinn, who was 5-of-9 for 83 yards passing, completed four passes in the final 58 seconds to set up that score.
Teixeira finished the game with 78 yards on the ground, but picked up 65 of them on his second touchdown run in the final minutes of the third quarter.
After that touchdown, the Warriors’ ‘D’ came up big in the final 10 minutes and sewed up the triumph by recovering a pair of fumbles and intercepting two passes.
D-R still leads the series, 23-21.

Saturday night I attended the semi-final girls basketball
game vs Townies Girls team as an aunt of one of the EP players. It was an exciting
all-around game for both teams, and I give credit to my niece and the Townie girls
too for a great season.  <br />I just have to say though, that I was
particularly impressed with the talent, poise and unflappable playing style of this
Tolman girls team! It can only speak well of a great coaching staff, and their love
and encouragement of these talented girls. After the game, the low-key humilty that
the Tolman girls displayed, showed real sportsmanship and class. I have a feeling
that this season is the "Year of the Tiger" and hope that they go straight on to
victory in the championship. No matter what the outcome though, they've gained a new
loyal fan in me, and I look forward to following the next seasons with real
interest. This is the way that high school sports should be played! You go Tolman
girls! - Regina Orio
