CENTRAL FALLS — Weeks after a man was stabbed in an alleged armed robbery in the School Street area, one of the suspects in the incident is in custody, police have reported.

According to police, 19-year-old Angel Martinez of 520 Hunt Street was arrested on Thursday, October 30 at approximately 1:15 p.m., a month after the incident allegedly took place. Martinez has been charged with conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit attempted robbery, and was found to have an outstanding Sixth District Court warrant for failure to appear, police said.
The arrest stems from one of two stabbings that occurred within days of each other in late September. The incident said to involve Martinez occurred on Tuesday, September 30, with police responding to the School Street area shortly after 6:00 p.m. that night.
Initially believed to be a shooting, the incident was determined by police to have been a stabbing. Believed to be a random act, the robbery was reported to have involved more than one suspect.
After a few days of investigation, police reportedly determined the identity of one of the suspects, since identified as Martinez, and obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was allegedly found and arrested on October 30 while officers were conducting road work detail.
When confronted by police, Martinez allegedly appeared nervous and initially gave officers a false name. However, after police noticed a discrepancy between his stated age and his stated date of birth, Martinez reportedly admitted his real name to officers.
According to police, Martinez was identified as an accomplice to the suspect responsible for the actual stabbing of the victim. No arrest or suspect description for the actual stabbing had been announced as of press time. Martinez was held by police, with surety bail reportedly set at $25,000.
