By DONNA KENNY KIRWAN PAWTUCKET — Police are investigating a report of numerous shots that were fired at an unidentified male that occurred Monday night on Jefferson Avenue, about a block from the Woodlawn Community Center.
According to Detectives Lt. Daniel Mullen, a caller who lives in an apartment in the area reported hearing a series of shots fired at around 7:48 p.m. and then saw someone run into the yard. A witness told police that three black males in a vehicle pulled up near 54 Jefferson Ave. and that one of the men, who had a weapon wrapped in a white shirt, exited the car and began shooting at a Hispanic male in a black hooded sweatshirt. The suspect, described as having braided hair and wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, then fled on foot toward an abandoned house, the witness said. Two other callers who live in the area reported to police that they heard shots. One woman told police that she had “hit the deck” and saw nothing. A man told police that he heard five shots in rapid succession and looked at his clock, noting that the time was 7:43 p.m. Mullen said that police recovered several shell casings in the area, but found no evidence that anyone had been wounded. He said that police notified all of the area hospitals and no shooting victims were reported. Mullen said the incident is still under investigation. He added, however, that unless the intended victim comes forward, which is unlikely, police are not going to be able to make much headway.
