By DONNA KENNY KIRWAN PAWTUCKET — A 32-year-old city woman was arrested on felony assault charges after allegedly stabbing her ex-boyfriend in the buttock with a knife during a violent domestic quarrel early Saturday morning.
Madelyn Cruz, of 100 Leonard Jenard Dr. in the Galego Court housing complex was arrested at her apartment, where the incident allegedly occurred, and charged with domestic—felony assault, according to Pawtucket Police. They declined to name the victim. According to police, officers responded to a 911 call at around 2 a.m. for a report of a man down across from building 70 in Galego Court. The victim told police he had been stabbed by Cruz, and that he believed she was still in her apartment. The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with a laceration to his left buttock. The injury was not believed to be life-threatening, police said. Police officers walked toward the 100 building and observed a trail of blood leading to a backpack with some clothes. With several police officers at the scene, Patrolman Timothy Graham entered the apartment with his gun drawn and announced himself. He said that a female, later identified as Cruz, walked out of a rear bedroom and was taken into custody without incident. Police said that two young girls, identified as the daughters of Cruz and the victim, were also found in a bedroom. They were placed in the custody of their grandmother. During an interview with police at the hospital, the victim said that at approximately 1 a.m., he had been drinking with his friend in another apartment at the housing complex when Cruz had arrived. He said she began to argue with him about taking care of their daughters. The victim said he left with Cruz and went back to her apartment to talk. When he refused her requests that he move back into her apartment, he said that she punched him in the mouth. He said that when he then turned around and began to leave the bedroom, Cruz smashed him over the head with something hard. He also said that when he turned around, Cruz began hitting him in the face. The victim told police that he grabbed Cruz and pushed her away from him and started to walk out of the apartment when he felt a sharp pain in his left buttock. He said he started to run and made it outside the building but then collapsed, and someone nearby phoned 911. Cruz was arraigned before Bail Commissioner William Walsh and surety bail was set at $25,000, police said.
