By DONNA KENNY KIRWAN PAWTUCKET — An 18-year-old city man was arrested on felony assault charges after allegedly stabbing another man in the neck during an argument Saturday afternoon, police said.
According to Pawtucket Police, officers responded to a call at around 4:25 p.m. of a disturbance at 16 White St. in which an individual was reportedly stabbed. Police say they found the victim, a 22-year-old man, sitting on the steps in front of the house, bleeding from the left side of his neck. The victim identified the suspect as Nuias D. Silveira, of 121 Magill St., 1st, Pawtucket. He said that he and Silveira had gotten into an argument that had escalated and the Silveira had stabbed him with a knife. The victim was transported to the Memorial Hospital for treatment. A witness told police that the victim and Silveira had been arguing in the street and at some point, Silveira allegedly swung a backpack, hitting the victim with it. During the struggle, Silveira’s cell phone fell out if the backpack and broke. The two then reportedly continued their argument, moving back to 16 White St., where Silveira allegedly stabbed the victim and fled on his bicycle in the direction of Stuart Street. While police were still on the scene, a car pulled up and two occupants got out, saying they had been sent by Silveira to retrieve his broken cell phone. Based on information they provided, police responded to an apartment at 16 Palm Street and took Silveira into custody. Silveira was arraigned before a bail commissioner and charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon, according to police. |
