CENTRAL FALLS — Police arrested a local man early Wednesday morning after he allegedly assaulted a man who was in the area to repossess vehicles. Officer Bari Cameron reported being dispatched to 28 Cross St., along with Sgt. Wayne Solan on Wednesday at about 1:10 a.m.
There, they found a 52-year-old man Cameron said had “a bloody nose, a bloody upper lip and a small lump on the back of his head,” as well as blood stains on his shirt.
The man, who was apparently an employee of an East Providence-based recovery company, had allegedly been in the area to repossess vehicles when he was approached by a man, later identified as 22-year-old Michael E. Padilla of 28 Cross St., who claimed to be the manager of the building.
Padilla allegedly pushed the man, who then told him that he didn’t “want any problems” and walked away.
However, the victim alleged that Padilla then ran toward him, punched him in the face twice and pushed him to the ground. When he attempted to get up, the victim said, Padilla punched him a third time and then returned inside the building.
While the victim was speaking with the officers, two men allegedly came out of the building, one of whom he reportedly identified as his assailant. Padilla was then arrested and taken to police headquarters.
Padilla was charged with simple assault or battery and released with a District Court summons, police said. He is due in court on Sept. 9.
