Cops seek clues in holdups |

Pawtucket police investigate an armed robbery Thursday night at the Newport Avenue Getty, 1197 Newport Ave. Times photo/Butch Adams By DONNA KENNY KIRWAN PAWTUCKET — Pawtucket Police are investigating two armed robberies that occurred Thursday night about five and a half hours apart, and are looking for pertinent information from the public.
At around 6:15 p.m., a tall black male armed with a handgun robbed the Getty gas station at 1197 Newport Ave. According to police, the man entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded that the cashier turn over money from the cash register. The suspect then fled the scene with an undetermined amount of cash, and headed down Newport Avenue in the direction of the Hasbro company. The suspect was described as approximately 6 feet tall and had his face covered with a ski mask. Later, at around 11:42 p.m. a suspect described as being a 6-foot 2-inch black male dressed all in black clothing entered the BK House of Cigars at 530 Broadway. According to police, a handgun was also shown and the man demanded that the clerk turn over money from the cash drawer. Once he had the cash, the suspect fled on foot, heading down Japonica Street toward Park Street. The suspect had on a black hoodie, hat and gloves, black shorts with white stripes on the legs, and black sneakers with red trim.
