By DONNA KENNY KIRWAN PAWTUCKET — Although he was originally referring to cans of beer, it was a different type of “singles” that an armed robber was seeking from Dexter Warehouse Liquors Monday night.
Police detectives are investigating the incident that occurred at around 9:45 p.m. in the liquor store at 263 Barton St. The proprietor told police he was in the rear of the store when a young black male entered and asked where the “singles” are kept. The owner said he responded by pointing out the area where the single cans of beer are kept. The suspect next went to the front of the store, removed a bottle of Hennessey from a shelf and put it on the counter. The owner then proceeded to the front counter and the cash register, at which point the suspect picked up another two bottles and put them on the counter. However, the owner said the suspect then put his hand in his pocket and pulled out a revolver. He allegedly pointed it at the owner and demanded the money from the cash register. The owner said that as he was getting out the money, the suspect also grabbed a Toshiba laptop computer from the counter. As the owner handed over the money, the robber also told him to put the three bottles of liquor in a bag. According to the owner’s account, the man then ran out of the store with the money, the computer and the bag of liquor and got into a white Honda Civic or Accord with tinted windows. The suspect then drove away, heading west on Barton Street toward Weeden Street. The robber was described as being about 20 years old, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall with a skinny build. He was clean shaven with one earring, and was wearing black shorts and a red hat. Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call Pawtucket Police at 727-9100.
