PROVIDENCE --- This loss was tough to swallow.
Ocean State Financial Post 10 of East Providence tried to break open a back-and-forth battle with the Providence Panthers by scoring three runs in the top of the sixth inning and grabbing a three-run command, but the hosts answered back with four runs in their half of the frame and held on for a wild 7-6 victory on Monday night before a sparse gathering at Rhode Island College.

Providence Country Day standout Nick Sebastien, who led Post 10's offense with two hits and three RBIs, had snapped a 3-3 tie in that eventful sixth with a mammoth home run over the 25-foot wall in left field, and Pat Rock capped the rally with a two-out, two-run ground single to right.
But Providence quickly struck in the home half of the frame off losing pitcher Matt Rodriques, who relieved starting pitcher Jeff Cantrell after he worked the first four innings and set down the side in the fifth on just seven pitches.
Rodriques walked the first two batters he faced and surrendered a ground single to left by pinch hitter Brayan Rodriguez that loaded the bases for No. 9 batter Andy Blanco, who promptly ripped a double down the left-field line to knock in two runs and send Rodriguez to third.
Rodriques was then replaced on the hill by shortstop Andrew Boisvert, but he didn't fare any better. His third pitch to the first batter he faced, James Reyes, skipped past catcher Mike Pinnozzi and allowed Rodriguez to score the tying run with ease and Blanco to move to third.
Reyes then lined out to center fielder Jared Silvia for the first out, but Boisvert again uncorked a wild pitch to the next batter, Pedro Luna, that sailed out of the reach of Pinnozzi and brought home Blanco with the go-ahead score.
Post 10 tried to answer back in the top of the seventh, but they only managed to draw a pair of walks.
To add to the sting of the loss, which was Post 10's fourth in its last five games and dropped their record to 3-7, was the fact that the visitors had two runners picked off base and committed four errors that led to three unearned runs.
No inning hurt more than the fifth when Post 10 tied the score at 3-3. OSF quickly scored the tying run when Pat Rock led off with a single to right, Jeff Kolb walked, and Silvia laced a single to center to plate Rock.
Luna, who was played center field, tried to scoop up Silvia's hit, but he misplayed the ball. Kolb tried to score all the way from first on the error, but he was gunned down at the plate on an 8-1-2 relay.
Silvia went to third on the play, but two pitches later, he got picked off by Panthers reliever (and winning pitcher) Chris Peralta and eventually tagged out by catcher Josh Santana. Silvia also got picked off first by starting pitcher Angel Beltre after leading off the contest with an infield single.
After Silvia was erased from the basepaths, Post 10 produced its first run without the benefit of a hit, as Boisvert drew a walk with one out, stole second base, was awarded third on an unusual balk (Beltre dropped the ball while he was standing on the mound), and sped home on a wild pitch.
The Panthers knotted the score in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly to deep left by Blanco, but the Riverside squad reclaimed its lead in the third when Sebastien ripped a two-out ground single up the middle to score Silvia from second.
Again, the hosts tied the game in their half of the third on a run-scoring single by Pedro Basilio that was a carbon-copy hit of  Sebastien's. They seized their only lead of the night in the fourth on a straight steal of home (with two outs) by Jean Soriano, but Post 10 soon evened things in the fifth.
Post 10 was coming off a win over the Panthers' crosstown rivals, Providence Post 29. OSF rode the solid pitching of 15-year-old Joey Carnevale to a 4-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Pierce Field, as Carnevale struck out four and scattered eight hits and two walks to pick up his third win in four decisions. Rock also had a two-run single in the fourth, and Mike Capineri had a two-run double in the sixth.
Post 10 returns to action on Thursday night with a 6 p.m. contest at Pierce against Hurd Auto Group. OSF will also return to its home field on Saturday afternoon for a 12:30 p.m. encounter against Cumberland Post 14.
