PAWTUCKET --- Andrew Larson and Matt Clark guided the way offensively and Troy Sawyer pitched four solid innings for the Nationals in their recent 8-4 victory over the Red Sox in Pawtucket RBI League action at Max Read Field. Larson's two hits and Clark's two-run single keyed the Nationals' attack, and Dan Nunes and Zack Feeley also had RBI singles. Zack Monteiro was also productive with a base hit and a sacrifice fly. Sawyer struck out three batters, allowing just one hit and one unearned run, to pick up the victory. The Red Sox were led by the hitting of Zack Harris and Jacob Nyzio and the pitching of Brandon Norman.
CENTRAL FALLS --- Collette Vacations Post 79 improved their American Legion record to 6-2 on Tuesday night by posting a 13-4 victory over New England Frozen Lemonade of Warwick. Four different pitchers combined on a six-hitter for Post 79, which fell behind by a 3-0 score after a half inning of play and broke a 4-4 tie by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and five more in the fifth. Offensively, St. Raphael Academy graduate John Robbins led the way by going 3-3 with 3 RBIs. Drew Given and Kyle Borden each also went 2-4, and Borden and Jeff Sousa each drove in three runs. Collette was coming off a weekend tournament in Keene, N.H. that saw the club go 2-2. Collette defeated Falmouth, Maine and Keene Senior Babe Ruth and lost to Haverhill Legion and West Warwick. Collette will have the rest of the week off before returning to action on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Barrington High when they face East Bay of Barrington. That contest will kick off a stretch of 12 games in 15 days for Post 79. WOONSOCKET --- Cool Air Creations completed a sweep of their doubleheader late Tuesday night at Renaud Field by posting a 5-2 victory over Providence Post 29 in American Legion action. Cool Air, which earlier in the evening, recorded a 10-3 win over Gordon Greene Post 27, received a stellar outing in the nightcap from starting pitcher Matt Okruta, who struck out five batters and scattered six hits and three walks in 6 1/3 innings of work. Brandon Worton picked up the save by striking out the final two batters of the game. Offensively, Cool Air (4-4), which broke a 1-1 tie by scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth, was led by Ryan Coffey (two hits, double, three RBIs), Kyle Lacasse (2 hits), and Worton run-scoring double. |
