CENTRAL FALLS — A man accused of stabbing two people during an altercation this weekend has turned himself in, according to the Central Falls Police Department.

Earlier this week, Col. Joseph Moran, the city’s police chief, told the Times that his department was seeking 24-year-old Kevin Stanford as a suspect in the incident, in which two peopled were allegedly stabbed. On Tuesday at approximately 7:45 a.m., police said Stanford, of 112 Jenkins Street, Third, Providence, turned himself in at their headquarters on Illinois Street. He faces a charge of domestic breaking and entering into a dwelling house without consent and two counts of felony assault with a dangerous weapon or substance.
According to Moran, the incident leading to Stanford’s arrest took place on Sunday at approximately 4:25 a.m. outside a Washington Street residence. There, officers arrived in response to a report of a large disturbance, in which a man had allegedly stabbed his girlfriend- also the mother of his child- and her brother, following an argument.
When police arrived, they found the crowd of people on the scene uncooperative at first, Moran said. However, they were eventually able to identify the suspect in the stabbing as Stanford, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The two stabbing victims were taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment. Their injuries were not believed to have been serious, though a hospital representative who spoke to the Times said she had no knowledge of the patients’ status or the incident that led to their hospitalization.
According to Moran, Stanford was taken to district court and processed there after turning himself in. Since he is facing a felony charge, Moran said, Stanford will have to appear in superior court at a later date. According to court records, he is due in the sixth district court on July 15 for a bail hearing.
