By JIM BARON

Open seats have touched off free-for-alls in two local state representative districts, with six candidates vying to replace Roger Picard in Woonsocket’s District 51 and five hopefuls looking to succeed Rick Singleton in Cumberland’s District 52.

Picard, a Democrat who is now senator in District 20, which covers parts of Woonsocket and Cumberland, is running unopposed, as are Pawtucket Sen. James Doyle in District 8 and Pawtucket Sen. John McBurney in District 15.
On the House side, according to the most recent information available from the Secretary of State’s office,  incumbents with no opponents include Lincoln Rep. Peter Petrarca in District 46; Woonsocket Rep. Lisa Baldelli-Hunt in District 49; Central Falls Rep. Agostinho Silva in District 56; Pawtucket Rep. William San Bento in District 58; Pawtucket Rep. Elaine Coderre in District 60; and Pawtucket Rep. Peter Kilmartin in District 61.
All of the unopposed candidates are Democrats and will win another term barring any write-in challenges.
Here is how area General Assembly races have shaped up as of Wednesday’s deadline for candidates to announce their intention to run.

Central Falls
Longtime Democratic incumbent Daniel Issa, of 1140 Lonsdale Ave., will have to defend his Senate District 16 seat in a primary against Central Falls City Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley of 135 Perry St. The winner will go up against Republican Albert Paul Larivee of 100 Jenks Ave. District 16 comprises Central Falls and parts of Cumberland and Pawtucket.
In House District 57, which contains a section of Cumberland, Democratic incumbent Kenneth Vaudreuil of 44 Temple Place will have a Republican opponent in November in the form of Mark Chapin of 2 Davis St., Cumberland.

Cumberland
The scrum to succeed Republican-turned-Independent-turned-Democrat Rick Singleton includes Kevin F. Crawley of 2 Michael Mark Lane; Karen L. MacBeth of 75 Newell Drive; James E. Scullin of 85 Carlson Drive, and Patrick J. Sullivan of 11 Hunter Drive, all Democrats. The winner of that primary will take on Republican Michael Tusoni of 5 Taylor Court.
In the District 19 Senate race. Daniel Connors of 370 Bryant St., the incumbent Democrat, will run against Republican Kathy McCurde Dennen of 8 Ethier Way.
Races in House District 45, primarily in Lincoln, and House District 57, most of which lies in Central Falls, also include Cumberland candidates.

Lincoln
Republican incumbent William McManus of 57 Rockridge Road will be opposed by Democrat Mary Ann Shallcross-Smith in House District 46.
Running as an Independent, Ed O’Neill of 2 Lladnar Drive, of the Lincoln Taxpayers Association, will try to unseat Democratic incumbent Joseph Montalbano, the current Senate President, of 10 Gale Ct., North Providence, in the district that straddles those two towns.
District 45 will see a primary contest between Democratic incumbent Rene Menard of 3 Sunset Drive and Cumberland resident Leo Donovan Jr. of 41 Jackson St. The predominantly Manville-Albion district contains part of Cumberland Hill.

North Smithfield
The Secretary of State’s office lists a three-way race in House District 48, with the Democratic incumbent, Raymond Church of 52 Main St., trying to fend off challenges from Republican Brian Newberry of 53 Follett St. and Independent Gary Ezovski of 88 North Main St.
In Senate District 22, which covers most of North Smithfield, Democratic incumbent John Tassoni Jr. of 33B Waterview Drive, Smithfield, appears to be running unopposed, according to the Secretary of State’s office.

Pawtucket
In District 59, incumbent Democrat J. Patrick O’Neil, 37, of 35 Sterling St., faces a challenge from Democrat John T. Arcaro, 45, of 66 Waltham St.
District 62, which includes part of East Providence, will see incumbent Democrat Elizabeth “Betsy” Dennigan, 53, of 54 Horsford Ave., East Providence, facing off against Sandra Bachini Gaboriault, 49, of 357 York Ave., Pawtucket, who is running under the Taxpayer Party banner.

Woonsocket
House District 51 will experience a six-way Democratic primary in September, with no Republican or Independent to face the winner. The candidates are Richard Picard, 61, of 734 Bound Road; Robert Phillips, 51, of 425 Dunlap St.; Christopher Fierro, 28, of 137 Ridge St.; David Lahousse, 47, of 106 Ridge St.; Bamby Mohamed, 47, of 394 Congress St., and Joseph Barroso of 224 Marshall Road.
In House District 50, Jon Brien of 521 South Main St., the Democratic incumbent, will engage in a primary battle with Police Detective Sgt. Robert Moreau, no address available, and the winner will take on Republican Harvey Nabozny, 48, of 407 Front St., in the general election.
Incumbent Democrat Marc Cote, 55, of 144 Woodland Road, will face a challenger in Senate District 24 from the North Smithfield side of the district. Christine Charest, 54, of 19 Lincoln Drive, North Smithfield, will oppose Cote in a Democratic primary. There are no Republican or Independent candidates for Cote’s slot.
