CUMBERLAND — A local teen was killed in a motorcycle accident on West Wrentham Road Monday night. The victim was identified by police as Patrick Holmes, 19, of Abbott Run Valley Road. The accident is under investigation. Its cause has yet to be determined by police.
Police, fire and EMS units responded to West Wrentham Road Monday at approximately 10 p.m. after receiving a report of an accident there. Accident reconstruction specialists called in not long after were still working on the case Tuesday afternoon. Police believe Holmes was eastbound near the intersection of Old West Wrentham Road when the accident occurred. He was apparently riding with a group of motorcyclists, and was unable to negotiate a curve. It is believed that Holmes’ motorcycle, identified by police as a silver Suzuki, struck a guardrail and was catapulted into nearby woods, where Holmes also landed. He was transported to the Rhode Island Hospital trauma center, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. His motorcycle was removed for investigation. None of the other motorcyclists were involved in the accident, and no one else was hurt, police said. Holmes was riding alone on his motorcycle, police said. It was unclear whether Holmes had been wearing headgear at the time of the accident, although a helmet was found not far from where he landed. |
