NORTH PROVIDENCE – Once again, errors were St. Raphael Academy’s downfall. SRA was guilty of six errors, three of which came in the sixth inning and resulted in North Providence breaking a 3-all game, propelling the Cougars to a 6-3 win Saturday night. The loss slid the Saints to one game below .500 in Division I action at 8-9. SRA finishes the regular season with a non-leaguer this afternoon against South Kingstown and a league contest at Smithfield High on Wednesday. The errors overshadowed a strong starting performance from Nick Gaj, who went the distance and was charged with just two runs. Gaj struck out four and walked three. The Saints jumped out to 3-0 lead after 2 ½ innings, highlighted by run-scoring singles from catcher Dominic DiSano and senior Doug Hopper. The Cougars, however, slowly chipped away, scoring once in the last of the third before tying the score with a two-spot in the fifth. *** St. Raphael 021 000 0 – 3-6-6 North Providence 001 023 x – 8-8-4 Nick Gaj and Dominic DiSano. Derek Nesbitt and Matt DaSilva. 2B: Ross Murphy, Matt Nassi, Keith McCluskie.
