PAWTUCKET — A package delivery turned out to be a gift for the Pawtucket Police Special Squad Wednesday afternoon, as it led to three drug arrests.

According to Detective Police Lt. Thomas Campbell, police had received information that an illicit package sent via Federal Express would be delivered to an apartment on Garden Street shortly after 1 p.m. Using surveillance, detectives saw a large package dropped off, which was then picked up by a man in a vehicle.
Campbell said that police detectives contacted Patrol Officer Kelly Boily and her trained police dog, Cash, to pursue the vehicle.
According to Boily’s report, she saw the car travel east on Garden Street and turn right onto Cedar Street without using a turn signal, then run a red light at Garden and Cedar streets. She stopped the vehicle on the I-95 south on ramp on the motor vehicle violations..
Campbell said that Cash, trained to sniff out drugs and other contraband, keyed in on both the car and the package, so detectives obtained a search warrant. Inside the package were coolers containing as a large quantity of marijuana and a small quantity of cocaine, Campbell said. It was found that the package had been delivered to the address of one of the suspect’s girlfriends.
All four men were taken into custody, and three of the four were charged with drug offenses, Campbell said. The three, Kevin Faria, of 337 Juniper St., East Providence, Christopher Grilo, of 30 Gemini Dr., East Providence, and Derek Washington, of Trentdale St., Dale City, Va., were all charged with possession of marijuana--1 kilogram to 5 kilograms, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, Campbell said.
Grilo, who was operating the vehicle, was additionally charged with two motor vehicle violations.
