BY VINAYA SAKSENA CENTRAL FALLS — Police have named both the victim and a suspect in a shooting that left a man seriously injured near the intersection of Broad Street and Clay Street on Tuesday afternoon.
Colonel Joseph Moran, Chief of the Central Falls Police Department, said the department is seeking 21-year-old Antone Williams — whose last known address was 15 Slater Street, Pawtucket — as a suspect in the shooting. Police have apparently obtained a warrant for the arrest of Williams, who is considered armed and dangerous. Police initially did not release the name of the victim, who was listed in critical condition according to a statement released by the police department Wednesday morning. The victim, previously described by Col. Moran as a 21-year-old Hispanic male, has been identified as Wilmer Barrome of Pawtucket. A search of court records turned up what appeared to be pending charges against both men. According to unofficial court records, an Antone E. Williams was due in court later this month for a trial on charges of selling firearms to a minor, carrying a pistol without a license and two counts of aiding and abetting felony. A Wilmer A. Barrome, meanwhile, was listed as having a pre-trial conference scheduled for March 6 on charges of disorderly conduct and possession of a weapon, not a firearm. The charges had allegedly been brought against the defendants by the police departments of Pawtucket and Central Falls, respectively. According to Col. Moran, officers responded to a 9-11 call reporting the shooting at approximately 2:33 p.m. on Tuesday. Police found a black sedan believed to belong to Barrome at the scene, and have since confirmed that a white Jeep Grand Cherokee had been seen fleeing the area. According to police, Sgt. Craig Horton began the process of administering first aid to Barrome, who was transported to a hospital by Central Falls Rescue. A Jeep of a similar description had been seen fleeing the area and traveling on Barton Street, with at least two Hispanic females and possibly two Hispanic males allegedly seen in the vehicle.
