PAWTUCKET – Trevor Vasey’s quarterback keeper from a yard out proved to be the difference in St. Raphael’s 26-20 overtime triumph against Rogers Wednesday night at Max Read Field. The Saints wrap up Division I play at 2-6, which is also the same league record for the Vikings. Vasey’s game-winning plunge came on third down, one play after the SRA junior hooked up on a 14-yard completion with senior Justin Beaucage that carried the action down to the Rogers’ 1 yard-line. The Vikings received the ball first in overtime before fumbling it away on third down. St. Raphael, which now leads the holiday series 3-1, took the lead on the first play of the second half, senior Nael Pierre-Louis covering 80 yards on the opening kickoff. SRA’s other second-half touchdown consisted of Vasey finding Jean Charles from 10 yards out. Rogers took the game’s opening kickoff, rattling off 14 plays that chewed up close to eight minutes. The Vikings advanced as far as the 16 before turning the ball over on downs. SRA’s first offensive series was halted after Vasey was picked off by Rogers’ Cody Platt, one of two picks the sophomore recorded in the opening half. The visitors drew first blood when junior Damion Rodrigo plowed into the end zone from one yard out, the touchdown coming three plays into the second quarter. The Saints drew even on a well-executed screen toss that saw Vasey connect 50 yards with Pierre-Louis. That tied the game at 6-all, which is where it stood heading into halftime.
