NORTHFIELD, Ma. –Johnny Gregorek was hoping to finish his final season on the cross-country trails with an individual state crown. Unfortunately, things didn’t quite work out as planned for the Seekonk High runner on Saturday afternoon. Competing in the Division II race of the MIAA All-State Championship, Gregorek struggled to a 14th-place finish. The Warrior senior covered the challenging, five-kilometer race at Northfield Mountain with a time of 17 minutes, 7 seconds. In mid-October, Gregorek was more than a minute faster than his effort at the states when he broke the tape at the MSTCA Bay State Invitational with a 15:56.8 clocking over the same 5K course. Arleigh McRae, a senior from Whitinsville-Christian Academy, won Saturday’s race with a time of 16:23.2. As a team, Seekonk placed an impressive third overall with 142 points. The Warriors’ top-three finish was their best placement in at least 20 years at the state level. Gregorek, junior Cody Archambault (25th, 17:31), junior Nate Larrimer (34th, 18:51.9), senior Kenny Cabral (38th, 17:41.8) and sophomore Jake Silva (111th, 19:02.4) comprised the scoring for Seekonk, which earlier in the season copped the South Coast Conference title with a perfect 6-0 mark. Pembroke took the team title at the All-State meet with an easy 37-95 win over second-place Bishop Feehan.
