Gregorek 14th in state race E-mail
Sunday, 22 November 2009
NORTHFIELD, Ma. –Johnny Gregorek was hoping to finish his final season on the cross-country trails with an individual state crown.
Unfortunately, things didn’t quite work out as planned for the Seekonk High runner on Saturday afternoon.
Competing in the Division II race of the MIAA All-State Championship, Gregorek struggled to a 14th-place finish. The Warrior senior covered the challenging, five-kilometer race at Northfield Mountain with a time of 17 minutes, 7 seconds.
In mid-October, Gregorek was more than a minute faster than his effort at the states when he broke the tape at the MSTCA Bay State Invitational with a 15:56.8 clocking over the same 5K course.  Arleigh McRae, a senior from Whitinsville-Christian Academy, won Saturday’s race with a time of 16:23.2.
As a team, Seekonk placed an impressive third overall with 142 points. The Warriors’ top-three finish was their best placement in at least 20 years at the state level.
Gregorek, junior Cody Archambault (25th, 17:31), junior Nate Larrimer (34th, 18:51.9), senior Kenny Cabral (38th, 17:41.8) and sophomore Jake Silva (111th, 19:02.4) comprised the scoring for Seekonk, which earlier in the season copped the South Coast Conference title with a perfect 6-0 mark. Pembroke took the team title at the All-State meet with an easy 37-95 win over second-place Bishop Feehan.

Saturday night I attended the semi-final girls basketball
game vs Townies Girls team as an aunt of one of the EP players. It was an exciting
all-around game for both teams, and I give credit to my niece and the Townie girls
too for a great season.  <br />I just have to say though, that I was
particularly impressed with the talent, poise and unflappable playing style of this
Tolman girls team! It can only speak well of a great coaching staff, and their love
and encouragement of these talented girls. After the game, the low-key humilty that
the Tolman girls displayed, showed real sportsmanship and class. I have a feeling
that this season is the "Year of the Tiger" and hope that they go straight on to
victory in the championship. No matter what the outcome though, they've gained a new
loyal fan in me, and I look forward to following the next seasons with real
interest. This is the way that high school sports should be played! You go Tolman
girls! - Regina Orio
