EAST PROVIDENCE --- Sophomore quarterback Steven Vasquez was truly exceptional in his first varsity start and senior running back Albert Bello ran for a career-high 219 yards on Saturday afternoon to help Central Falls High roll to a 44-12 victory over the Providence Country Day/Wheeler School co-cop team. Vazquez completed 11 of his 17 attempts for 127 yards and three touchdown passes, all of them to senior wide receiver Robert Alers, as the Warriors (2-2 overall) claimed their first Division IV game after opening their league slate with losses to preseason favorites Classical and Middletown. The Warriors scored all the points they needed in the first quarter when they took a 14-0 lead on a 23-yard touchdown run by Bello, an 11-yard TD pass by Vazquez to Alers, and a safety when the Knights snapped the ball out of their end zone. Their lead increased to 20-0 at the break on a 23-yard touchdown pass from Vazquez to Alers and 32-6 after three quarters on an eight-yard touchdown run by senior fullback Emmanuel Versailles and a 45-yard TD run by Bello. The Warriors’ final two touchdowns came on Vazquez’s 16-yard touchdown pass to Alers and junior running back Jose Peraza’s first career touchdown, which came on a 78-yard run in the game’s final minute. Peraza finished the game with 84 yards on the ground and Versailles ended up with 69. Alers also caught seven passes for 86 yards. The Warriors are back in action on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Higginson Avenue Complex with a tough test against Hope High, which is 3-0 and tied for first place in the standings with Middletown High.
