Vanna M. Giuttari
EAST PROVIDENCE - Vanna M. (Frova) Giuttari, 103, of East Providence, RI, passed away peacefully with her family at her side. She was a lifelong resident of Pawtucket.
Born in Allentown, PA to the late Manlio Frova and the late Eva (Arner)Frova. Vanna was the wife of the late Joseph Giuttari, and sister to the late Carl Frova and Jean (Frova) Gann.
She is survived by her two sons, Joseph (Jay) Manlio Giuttari of Miami, FL; and Glenn Nicholas Giuttari of Rehoboth, MA. She leaves 8 grandchildren (Michael, Debra, Lisa, Joseph, Lori, Nathan, Aidan and Isabelle) and 13 great-grandchildren.
Vanna was a talented seamstress and pursued this work she loved both as a business and an avocation throughout her lifetime. Among her endeavors she managed her own dress making business. Years later she established a fabric shop as an extension of her husbands textile manufacturing plant, Lyon Fabrics, Inc., in Pawtucket, RI, selling textiles and creating beautiful custom dresses, suits and ties for many years.
Retired but still active well into her nineties, Vanna created and sewed hundreds of dolls sold at East Bay Manor's Christmas bazaar. All the funds were donated to charity for the purchase of winter coats for children in need. During her life, Vanna was dedicated to community activities including The Girl Scouts of RI, Mount St. Rita Sisters of Mercy, Pawtucket YWCA, Pawtucket Garden Club, Pawtucket Day Child Development Center, The American Red Cross, and was a lifetime member of Pawtucket Womans Club. She also translated and created children's books in Braille for The Readers Digest Association.
Vanna made a significant difference in the lives of all those that were touched by her grace and her love. Above all, she was deeply devoted to her family. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 1 pm at Sayles Memorial Congregational Church, 185 Chapel Street, Lincoln, RI (401) 723-1255.
