Two-way traffic on East Ave. to smooth downtown access

PAWTUCKET — A change in the downtown traffic pattern to provide greater accessibility and ease of travel will take effect this morning when the portion of East Avenue from Main Street to Park Place will become a two-way thoroughfare for the first time in decades.
The change, one of a number of traffic improvements recommended in the Downtown Design Plan completed in May 2011 by the city Planning Department and advocated by the Pawtucket Foundation, also represents the unraveling of one of the final pieces of the infamous “Circulator” pattern that has baffled motorists since it made its debut on Dec. 1, 1967.
