PAWTUCKET â€“ Heâ€™s a city native famous the world over, and now heâ€™s the honored guest at this yearâ€™s installment of the Blackstone Valley Tourism Councilâ€™s annual awards dinner.
Heâ€™s none other than Mr. Potato Head, the Hasbro toy thatâ€™s celebrating its 60th birthday this year.
BVTCâ€™s 27th annual awards dinner takes place at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln on Sept. 27.
â€śWe are so excited to recognize Hasbro and their iconic toy Mr. Potato Head,â€ť said BVTC President Dr. Robert D. Billington. â€śThe toy is so much a part of our Valleyâ€™s heritage and has been so much a part of many youngstersâ€™ lives since he was introduced in the 1950s.
In addition, Hasbro, Inc. will be receiving the Blackstone Valley Excellence in Arts, Business, and Design Award, said Billington.
With corporate headquarters based in Pawtucket, Hasbro has grown into one of the largest toy makers in the world. Besides its beloved Mr. Potato Head, the company also made an assortment of other toys household names in pop culture, including GI Joe, Lite-Brite and My Little Pony.
